What is hallux valgus ?

The most common foot deformity !

Your grandmother, your mum, your aunt, and now it's you! You thought you would escape it but it is there.

More commonly known as a bunion, it is a common deformity of the forefoot mainly observed in women. The big toe (hallux) curves towards the second toe. This movement is called valgus. The joint becomes deformed as the first metatarsal bone (long bone of the foot) is pushed out of the foot and the big toe tries to re-centre itself inwards.
A bump (exostosis) develops which can become more pronounced with repeated rubbing of the shoe.
